General Manager Message

There's been a lot of talk about the recall. Here are the facts for our customers.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation about select model Toyota's sticking accelerator pedal recall. McGeorge's message to Toyota owners is this - if you are not experiencing any issues with your accelerator pedal, we are confident that your vehicle is safe to drive. If your accelerator pedal becomes harder to depress than normal or slower to return, please contact our service department immediately at 804-755-9234.

At McGeorge Toyota, we take this issue very seriously, but I want to make sure our customers understand that this situation is rare and generally doesn't occur suddenly, In the instances where it does occur, the vehicle can be controlled with firm and steady application of the brakes.

Here's the latest update on the recall:

1.    Toyota has started to send letters this weekend to owners involved in the recall to schedule an appointment at the local, authorized Toyota dealership.

2.    McGeorge Toyota has recently launched a web site designed to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information: http://mcgeorge.toyotausarecall.com

3.    McGeorge Toyota's technicians have been trained to install the delivered parts needed to satisfy the affected model recall.

4.    McGeorge Toyota has extended its service hours to help ensure that all central Virginia Toyota owners are safely and quickly back on the road - once notified by Toyota, contact us to schedule your appointment. You can even drop-off your Toyota by 8 p.m. and have it ready to go by 7 a.m.!

Our entire organization of more than 120 McGeorge Toyota employees have been mobilized and trained to answer any question that you many have. And we're redoubling our quality control efforts in our service department to make sure that you recall repairs are done right the first time.

Ensuring your safety is McGeorge's highest priority. I will continue to update you with accurate and timely information about the status of the recall in the days and weeks ahead.

Sincerely,

Dear Valued McGeorge Toyota Customer,

Monday morning, Toyota Motor Sales announced that they have a permanent fix for the sticky accelerator recall. This is great news as Toyota said that dealers should start receiving parts for this recall by the end of the week. They also mentioned that owners of the affected vehicles should begin receiving notification letters this week.

At McGeorge, we began planning extended hours and days for our Service Department at the very first announcement.  Our goal is to extend the hours of operation to accommodate our loyal customer base and all Toyota owners.

We are prepared to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week to get you back on the road safely. This decision will ultimately depend on parts availability. We will focus on taking care of the vehicles that you are driving before we start repairing the affected vehicles for sale.

Toyota has a long history for their quality, dependability and reliability. Most of you driving Toyotas have never had any quality issues with your vehicle (especially relating to this recent recall). We are extremely confident that Toyota has and will continue to put you, our customer, as their first priority.

Everyone here at McGeorge wants to thank you for your patience and understanding in regards to this matter. We also want to assure those affected by this recall that we will do our best to make the repair process as quick and convenient as possible.

If you have any further questions regarding vehicle sales or Toyota's voluntary safety recall, please contact us directly at 804-755-9234 or customercare@mcgeorgetoyota.com.

Sincerely,

Bob Farlow

Dear Toyota Customers:

For more than 50 years, Toyota has provided you with safe, reliable, quality vehicles and first-rate service. I am truly sorry for the concern our recalls have caused, and want you to know we're doing everything we can - as fast as we can - to make things right.

We have launched a comprehensive plan to permanently fix the vehicles we've recalled because in rare instances, accelerator pedals can, over time, become slow to release or get stuck. We know what's causing this and what we have to do to fix it. We've tested our solution rigorously, and we are confident that it works.

We're working day and night with Toyota dealers to make our recalls simple and trouble-free. Here are some of the things we're doing:
  1. The precision parts we've engineered to reinforce the pedals are already being shipped and dealers are being trained to make the repair.
  2.  We're writing to all customers affected by the Pedal recall, as well as the Floor Mat recall, to let them know how to schedule a convenient appointment with their local dealer.
  3. Many of our dealers will be working extended hours - some of them 24/7 - and adding staff to get through the repairs as quickly as possible.
  4. We've temporarily halted production of these models to focus fully on fixing this problem in the vehicles that are on the road. Our entire organization of 172,000 North American employees and dealership personnel is committed to you.

Some of the actions we've taken are unprecedented. Stopping production is never an easy decision - but we're confident it's the right thing to do for our customers.

Ensuring your safety is our highest priority. We'll continue to do everything we can to meet - and exceed - your expectations, and justify your continued trust in Toyota.

Sincerely,

Jim Lentz
